“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.” —Hal Borland
I can't believe wwe are about to start a new decade! Sitting here working on my 2020 calendar and goals, I looked back over 2019 and I'm amazed at all we've done! A lot of changes have transpired for Skin Essentials this year, some have been amazing and some have been challenging, but all in all it's made us what we are and we are grateful for all the wins and the lessons.
We've said goodbye to several estheticians this year who went on to new opportunities and we've welcomed several new faces as a result! Have you met Aerin, Ramona, Jessi and Summer? (You can learn more about all of our Estheticians here.)
We've celebrated some milestones in 2019 as well: Erica and Savannah celebrated their one year anniversaries here at Skin Essentials, JoDeen celebrated 4 years with us and Kim hit the 7 year mark! I'm so grateful to get to spend my days working with professionals who are so talented, passionate and committed to their esthetic careers! Plus they are all caring, funny, interesting and amazing people! Skin Essentials saw it's 12th year in 2019 and I saw my 14th year as an Esthetician. If you'd told me back in 2005 that this is what life would be like today, I would not have believed any of it!
New regulations from the State Board of Cosmetology this year have led to Dermaplaning services being offered. Read about it on the blog here. Ramona and I started doing MicroChanneling and Stem Cell therapy. (Read about that one on the blog too.) Aerin has introduced some amazing body treatments to our line up too!
You may not know this but estheticians as a group are usually excited about learning new things. Kim became a Certified Keto coach this year. She's offering Keto classes and her personal transformation has been amazing. (Follow Kim here.) Savannah traveled to Texas this fall for certification in Manual Lymphatic Drainage which is a technique that clears the lymph, improves cellular communication, and leads to healthy nourishment while eliminating toxins and also more even toned, firmer skin. (Follow Savannah here) In 2020 I'll be finishing a course that I started this year to become a Certified Nutritional Aesthetics Provider and Savannah and I are both looking forward to a class in January where we will be learning Dien Chan Face Reflexology.
Our boutique has evolved a lot over the past year. You might remember we did a relaunch of the boutique in the summer of 2018 and we've been learning and tweaking things ever since. We listened when you told us you were looking for more local skincare and gift options so we expanded our selection of local made items and they've been very well received! In the professional skincare realm we've added Blissoma Holistic Skincare, Earth Harbor Naturals and Dermaki Skincare to go along with 302 Skincare so you'll have a lot of options for customization when it comes to taking care of your skin. We don't really subscribe to the one size fits all notion of skin health so if you ever need a consultation or want to do a home care product audit, send me an email.
We saw some fun events come and go in 2019! Things got cozy at the Hygge Pajama Party back in January and got a little exotic at the Moroccan Magic Henna Party this summer! The first ever ICT Spa Week happened this fall with a focus on raising awareness locally for self care. We did a little disco and twister at the Dy-no-mite 70's Christmas kick off and we had a great time showing off our ugly sweaters at the Tacky Christmas party this month. We really appreciate all of you who participate in our events throughout the year! For 2020 we have a few planned including a Winter Bliss event in January and a Skin and Gut Health Connection workshop this spring. If you have an idea for an event or if you'd like us to bring back one from the past that you particularly loved just send me an email and I'll definitely consider it!
This year we have really tried to make an effort to communicate more with you, our core audience, in the form of blog posts, informational social media posts and our "awkward" videos! The videos especially have forced most of us outside our comfort zone but it has been worth it since our audience (you) have responded so positively. Our goal is to be authentic and to give you a glimpse into our professional lives and to educate you on all things skin whenever we can. Thanks for all the support and feedback you've given us on this we really appreciate it! If there is a skincare topic you'd like to see on the blog or in our videos, send me an email and I will see what I can do! (If you haven't caught our videos yet you can view them here)
That wraps it up for 2019! I'd like to thank you for supporting our small local business this year and for reading this long email! We're looking forward to 2020 and all the possibility a new decade has in store!
Happy New Year!
